About the Staff

Pastor: Marcus Sheffield was called as Pastor in 1989. A native of Mexia, Marcus holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Texas A&M University and a Master of Divinity Degree and post-graduate study from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is married to Sheryl who teaches at Mexia High School. The Sheffield's have two sons: Colby, and wife Sara are graduates of Texas A&M University, College Station, and Jordan, who is a student at the University of Texas, Austin.

Minister of Music: Marc Wilson was called to the church in 1980. Marc is a native of DeLeon, Texas, and holds a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Howard Payne University and a Master of Music Degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is married to Pam who teaches at R. Q. Sims Intermediate School in Mexia. They have two children: Marcus and wife Amanda reside in Mexia where he is a teacher/coach at Mexia Junior High, and Natalie who resides with husband David Nelson in Amarillo.

Minister of Youth and Education: Eric Ream was called to the church in 2005. A native of Springfield, Illinois, Eric holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Baptist Bible College and a Master of Theology Degree from Dallas Theological Seminary. He is married to Elisabeth and they have two preschool sons, Ethan and Evan.

Minister of Activities and Senior Adults: Jack Ballard was called to the church in 2000. A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Jack holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Alabama and a Master of Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is married to Pat who is a nurse at Parkview Regional Hospital. They have two children: Jodi, who in an instructor at McBay Elementary School resides in Mexia with husband Ray Commander, and their two children Taylor and McKenzie, and Josh, who is a Student Minister at
First Baptist Church, Aledo, and resides with wife Emily in Fort Worth. 

Church Secretary: Ann Patton oversees all office work and publications along with finances and church contributions. She has been employed a FBC for almost 35 years. She and husband, Oscar (deceased) have one daughter, Stacey, who lives with Ann's four grandchildren in Magnolia.

Part-time Secretary: Ruth Anne Eberle came on staff in January to assist in office work and serve as webmaster of our web site. She and husband Richard, have two sons: Randal and wife Sarah of Bonham and Frank and wife Carol and three grandchildren of Dayton, Texas.

Facilities Manager: Walter Van De Weghe oversees all custodial and maintenance work of our facilities and coordinates the calendar for building usage. He was employed by FBC in 1989. Walter and wife Bonnie have three children: Stephanie and husband Steve Corn of LaSalle, Karla and husband Mike Sandlin of Wortham and Yvonne and husband Eddy Young of Cameron along with 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Child Care Supervisor: Lu Ann Campbell is in charge of enlisting workers for Extended Session on Sunday mornings and coordinating paid personnel for special activities. Lu Ann is Director of Providence Hospice and resides in Mexia with husband, Dr. James Campbell.

Church Pianist: Sheryl Sheffield came on as pianist in 1993. She is married to our Pastor, Marcus Sheffield and teaches Language Arts at Mexia Junior High School.

Organist: Diana Nabors assumed the organist position in 1995. She works in the Law Office of Reed and Reed. She is married to John Nabors and they have two children, Kevin of Lake Mexia, and Kristen and husband Kent Vest of Plano (with baby on the way).
